ACTION
SAPOFEN or SAPOFEN-JUNIOR (Ibuprofen) is a non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It possesses potent analgesic and
antipyretic properties. It inhibits prostaglandins synthesis.

INDICATIONS
SAPOFEN is used for its anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects in the treatment of rheumatic disorders such as
: Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile
polyarthritis and allied conditions, soft tissue injuries and non
articular rheumatic conditions.
SAPOFEN is also indicated for its analgesic effect to relieve pain
in the following cases : dysmenorrhea, dental and post-operative pain.
It also reduces fever.
SAPOFEN-JUNIOR is indicated for the reduction of fever and the relief
of mild to moderate pain in children older than 1 year. SAPOFEN-JUNIOR
is with delicious orange flavoured taste. |

DOSAGE
Adults : The recommended initial dose is 1200mg
- 1800mg daily in divided doses. Some patients can be maintained on
600mg - 1200mg daily. The total daily dose of SAPOFEN should not exceed
2400mg.
Children : The daily dosage of SAPOFEN-JUNIOR is 20mg per kg of body
weight in divided doses. This can be achieved as follows:
1 - 2 years : 2.5ml three to four times a day.
3 - 7 years : 5ml three to four times a day.
8 - 12 years : 10ml three to four times a day.
SAPOFEN-JUNIOR is not recommended for children under the age of one
year or for children less than 7kg. For short term use only. |

CONTRA-INDICATIONS
Ibuprofen, like other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs should not be given to patients with active or severe peptic
ulceration. Use of Ibuprofen during pregnancy and lactation should
- if possible - be avoided. Ibuprofen should not be given to patients
in whom aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs induce
the symptoms of asthma, urticaria or rhinitis. |

SIDE
EFFECTS
Ibuprofen is well tolerated, with low incidence
of side effects. adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances,
peptic ulceration and gastro-intestinal bleeding have been reported.
Other side effects include skin rash, nervousness, headache and tinnitus.
Blurred vision and less frequently thrombocytopenia, toxic amblyopia
and oliguric renal failure have been reported during Ibuprofen treatment,
but were resolved on cessation of medication |

20's and 600mg in the pack of 30's tablets.
SAPOFEN-JUNIOR is available as 100mg/5ml suspension,145ml pack. |
